Hi guys - I need some advice here!

Which route would you suggest?

Blantyre, Zobue, Tete, Harare or going down entering Zimbabwe at Mutare? Then on to Francistown back to Bloem. What is the situation at the Tete bridge?

Alternatively: If I conider going back through Mozambique entering SA at Pafuri, I see a route exiting Malawi at the southern tip of Malawi (M1), entering Moz at Villa Nova de Fronteira eventually leading to the EN1. Maybe spend some time at Vilankolos. Is this route advisable?

Any inputs will be appreciated.

Hi

depends on how much of a hurry you are in. If you exist southern tip of Malawi to Vila Nova da Fronteira you will not be able to cross the zambezi Mutarara - sena as the bridge is back to rail only. You would be better going via Mulanje - Milange then straight down the E.N 1.

Have not heard of any problems on Tete-bridge lately other than the one-way system due to maintenance which could see a delay of up to an hour. Could be complete by now.

Otherwise go the Tete - Changara - Nova - Vanduzi - Mutare route if wanting to see some of Zim.

Hi Mike,

Wondering if you can confirm that the Dona Ana Bridge to Sena from the Southern tip of Malawi is still closed to Vehicles. I am currently in Southern malawi, heading for Caia.

Thanks! Alex

To report back: coming from southern Malawi to Moz, the vila Nova de Fronteira border was a real pleasure to pass through, and the tracks south to Mutarara in relatively good condition. I did not enquire about the bridge, as was told the ferry across the Shire was working. The road east to the Tembe-Tembe ferry was indeed slippery in the recent rain, as warned by Mozman. The ferry was working and had no issues although it closes at lunch 12- 14h, so plan accordingly (it cost 100mts per car). The road through to Caia was sandy, slow and potholed but very scenic, I'd recommend it, if you have time.

SandyLandy, can you give me an indication of the time it took to travel? We are planning to travel from Gorongosa to Malawi, will one day be sufficient?
Thanks
