Hi Mike and other readers. Love the website and forum, very informative. I would like to cross over from Malawi one of these days and was wondering whether the in the topic mentioned border crossing is recommendable and whether the river can be crossed at Vila de Sena. I will be on a motorbike and will be traveling south to Maputo. Any other tips or things I should take in to mind currently (eg are there still protected convoys on parts of the way)

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Sanna

The Dona Anna bridge rail from Mutarara to Sena does have a 1,5m wide pedestrian walkway that is regularly used by locals on small motorbikes. On the Sena side there are steep steps where you will need assistance to carry your bike down.

In Mutarara there is a basic Inn near the bridge and in Sena ask about Pousada Luterana (Lutheran church guesthouse). From Sena head to Caia 32km south of which there is fabulous Mphingwe Camp.

Currently there are no convoys operating in Mozambique and the truce is holding. However if Renamo go back to the bush expect convoys from Caia 150km to Nhamapaza on the EN.1 and for 100km from Muxungue (Nova Golega) to Save also on the EN.1.

Fuel at Mutarara, Caia, Nhamapaza, Vila Gorongosa, Inchope, Muxungue, Pambara and regularly all the way south to Maputo.

Go well, great trip.

Mike
