Hi Mike,

I have some questions about travelling in Moz.

1. Can I get an autorised copy of my passport in other city than Maputo? For example Nampulo?

2. Is it best to bring some euro's, dollars or African rand in case the atm doesn't work?

3. Is their a direct busline between Nampula and Beira/Vilanculos?

4. How's diving at Ibo compaired to diving at Tofo and Vilanculos?

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Ing

apologies for the slow reply. See my responses after your queries:
1. Can I get an autorised copy of my passport in other city than Maputo? For example Nampulo?

MIKE: Yes. Every Provincial capital has Notário público. In Chimoio, for example, I went to the Conselho Municipal and they had a list. So perhaps you could start at Conselho Municipal de Nampula Edifício Sede: Av. Eduardo Mondlane n°766, This email address is being protected from spambots. 2. Is it best to bring some euro's, dollars or African rand in case the atm doesn't work?

MIKE: In Mozambique south of the Zambezi the general rule is Rands are widely accepted, but US dollars also good. North of the Zambezi dollars are usually the best hard currency to carry.

3. Is their a direct busline between Nampula and Beira/Vilanculos?
MIKE: Yes. Bus companies seem to go out of business regularly, but go to the Terminus alongside the railway line near to the Railway Station and ask. Very bad safety record, so pehaps just find a bus that looks in good condition heading where you want to go, but be prepared to wait a while before it fills.

4. How's diving at Ibo compaired to diving at Tofo and Vilanculos?
MIKE: Quite a lot more expensive at Ibo. Have only dived off Pemba which was great. Different conditions at each location so do the research and decide.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Enjoy your travels,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Sorry, one question pops up after reading the bus has a very bad safety record.

If I fly, is there only a risk of having a few hours, maybe a day, delay? Or is there also a risk I will never get to my destination by air?

Hi again

LAM have been very unreliable over recent months with some flights cancelled, but a few hours delay. Despite this I would still choose flying over buses bearing in mind possible delays.

Mike.

Hi again.

Me too, but if you have a high risk personality, try a Moz bus. If you are lucky you will get a roadworthy vehicle with a sober driver, but my experiences on buses in Moz have been bad.
