Hello there
Please may u assist my friend and I would like to come to Mozambique mid June. We are working on a $300-$350 budget each for everything.so would like to know if Maputo would be the best place to go,really want to go to the beach.
Will lay down my questions below as l need quite a lot of assistance :
1)how do we get to Maputo from Harare by bus and which route is more convenient on time and cost?
2)what can we expect when we arrive?
3)is air bnb the best site for accommodation?
4)lastly is it easy for us to get around especially to the beach?

Would really appreciate suggestions as we have been getting very little information off Internet

Thank you

Hi there Tabster

apologies for the slow reply. See my responses within your message below:

MIKE: Your budget depends on how long you want to be in Mozambique. If it is longer than a week this will not be sufficient money.

Will lay down my questions below as l need quite a lot of assistance :
1)how do we get to Maputo from Harare by bus and which route is more convenient on time and cost?
MIKE: I would not go to Maputo. Rather head to Vilanculos and stay at Baobab Beach backpackers. If you bring along a small tent your budget will stretch a lot further, but they do have reasonable self-catering accommodation.

2)what can we expect when we arrive?
MIKE: At the border, the usual bureacracy. No visa on a Zim passport so no costs at the border if using public transport. Mozambicans are generally friendly and polite. Best way to get money is at an ATM, otherwise ask other travelers for advice on how to change cash dollars without getting ripped off.

3)is air bnb the best site for accommodation?
MIKE: No. I would look up DriveMoz on Facebook and there you will find a lot of good info aimed mainly at people with own vehicles.

4)lastly is it easy for us to get around especially to the beach?
MIKE: No problem if you stay at Baobab beach in Vilanculos - it is right on the beach.

Have a great trip. By bus you could go Harare - Vilanculos in two days so long as you get to the border at 0600 opening time.

Mike
