Hi Mike,
We would like to travel from Malawi to Zimbabwe in August. The corridor seems a good way to go, because otherwise we would have to go over Zambia.
We are unsure about some points and are very happy that you answer questions here.

We want to travel from Malawi (Mwanza) via Tete Changar, Catandica, Manica to Mutare.
1. Question: What about the current safety on this route?
2. Question: Can we get a visa for MOZ at the border Mal/Moz?

This route lasts approx. 8 h. With the border crossing, we do not create this route in one day- we have to stay overnight.
3. Question: Where can we find a secure campsite?
Are there any recommendations?
Thank you Mike for helping travelers. That´s so kind! You must get a medal for the good deed for Mozambique.
Kind regards
Parnassia

Hi Parnassia.

Thanks for the affirmation and I apologize for the delayed reply. See my responses withing your query below:
We want to travel from Malawi (Mwanza) via Tete Changar, Catandica, Manica to Mutare.
1. Question: What about the current safety on this route?
MIKE: There have been no Renamo incidents on this route since the truce in December. The current hazards are ore trucks between Tete and Chimoio. They are driven quite recklessly. Do not drive at night.

2. Question: Can we get a visa for MOZ at the border Mal/Moz?
MIKE: Yes at Zobue visas are issued, but it can be complicated and long process, so if possible get one in Blantyre. The cost at borders varies, but should be Mzn2657 or about $50.

This route lasts approx. 8 h. With the border crossing, we do not create this route in one day- we have to stay overnight.
MIKE: Unless you get through the border by 0900, I would not try do do Zobue to Mutare via Manica in one day. The Machipanda / Forbes Post border closes at 20.00, but best be there by 18.00. A good idea is to aim for Casa Msika casamsikalodge.com/ near Manica, and if you make good time, then just head for Mutare.

3. Question: Where can we find a secure campsite?
MIKE: See Casa Msika above. Where will you stay in Mutare?
Are there any recommendations?
Go well

Mike
