Dear Mike.
We are planning a Zimbabwe /Mozambique trip in mid March 2018 and we have seventeen days only.
We initially wanted to travel all the way to lake Malawi and back but we realized that we will be driving more then slipping, and we took Malawi out of our Itinerary.
The idea is to explore the not so frequent visited sites of Mozambique and at the same time for the sake of peace with our wives to spoil them at place like Villankulos perhaps?I am sure you will understand we must keep the balance. We would not want to visit the south of Mozambique.
Please see my proposed itinerary.
Start our trip from Pafuri, Gonarezhou NP, Gorongoza NP ,Villankulos or similar. Is Gorongoza NP open to self drive visitors, is March suitable month to visit Gorongoza Any suggestions would be welcome.
We have to be back in Pretoria within seventeen days.
Would you be able to assist us with the planning and all relevant info.I am happy to pay your fees.

Hello Nikola and welcome to Mozguide

See my responses within your message below:

MIKE: Pafuri - Chicualacuala - Gonarezhou is a great route, but December to May is the wet season for this area. and this is a very difficult and maybe impossible route at this time of the year. Dumela Wilderness Safaris have a nice campsite in Mozambique 7km from Pafuri, and they usually close their camp and go back to South Africa during this time due to flooding. The Limpopo will be too high to cross, and the tracks in the area are impassable. The tracks and rivers in Gonarezhou will also be liable to flooding, and you probably will not be able to cross the Runde river, making only the Mabalauta section accessible.

MIKE: Yes 17 days too short to include Malawi.

MIKE: The coastline of Mozambique is 3000km long. So Vilanculos is quite far south. I assume you mean Inhambane area is the south.

MIKE: You will have to skip Gonarezhou. In the summer rains, the only "alternative" route that should be driveable is Pretoria - Kruger Letaba camp - Giriyondo - Massingir - Chokwe - Macia (bridges destroyed on Chibuto route) - Xai-Xai etc.
We have to be back in Pretoria within seventeen days.
