Always a good precaution to have all your documents e.g passport, drivers license, I.d book, birth certificate copied, notarised and kept seperately but for use in moz the copies must be notarized in Moz. Easiest to go to a smaller town such as Xai-Xai and ask for the 'oficinas do notorial publico'. Usually a formality and a small fee for the revenue stamp.

Olá !
There is one notário in Maputo that is easy to find: he is in the Rua do Bagamayo (-> googlemaps)close to the Praça do 25 de Junho on the right hand side when you enter the road from the praça. It is not writen on the building, just ask the people, everybody knows that place. The notário is on the 1st floor. Horário: Mo-Fr 10.00-12.00 o´clock.
Ask there for a certification (pt: autenticação). You must bring your copies, they compare them to the original and give you the stamps (pt: carimbo), if everything is alright. An autenticação of one document costs 10 Meticais.
The whole procedure does not take much time. By having that autenticação you can save a lot of trouble with the police, and you can travel easily through the whole country. So go there first just after arriving and take your autenticação. It makes your life easier in Moçambique.
So far,
Andreas
