I am Canadian and my traveling companion is a Motswana. Do we need to stop in Jo'burg to get visa's? I absolutely hate Jo'burg so hoping to be able to just get off the Gabs-Jo'burg Intercape bus and onto the Jo'burg-Maputo Intercape bus...

Just found out that Botswana citizens do not need a visa for Moz and have managed to get the Canadian one!

Here is the plan so far - let me know if anyone has any suggestions please! So you know the deal, we are on a bit of a budget (can't afford flights or diving or anything crazy like that), but willing to splurge as long as it is worth it. We are looking to go out for dancing and drinks in the evenings and spend the days walking, relaxing on the beach, etc.

We will arrive in Maputo 8:30 July 17th. Stay at the Monte Carlo (any different suggestions?) overnight and spend the day (doing what if you only have one day in Maputo?). The next morning bus to Maxixe (is it absolutely necessary to book this bus?), on to Inhambane (any suggestions about how much one should expect to pay for the water taxi?).

We will stay at either Mango Beach or Bamboozi Backpackers. Which would you suggest - as we are a bit worried about safety walking from the pubs back to accommodation in evenings, but want to be staying somewhere close to water and nice and relaxing.

Suggestions appreciated!

Look at the 3 outfits aroung Guinjata Bay (Guinjata, Jeff's Palm Resort <www.jeffsmoz.com>, Jangamo), 30km south of Inhambane. Good vibe, as the 3 operations are close, so you can walk from pub to pub. Derek's Pro Divers is the best dive operation I've seen in 20 years of diving. They go to Manta Reef.

Hi
apologies for reply delay - been in the bush near Panda. Monte Carlo a good option and of course Coconuts Live for dancing. Bus all depends - if Panthera Azul it's good idea to book. I see Oliveiras has closed so perhaps use TSL - get to 'Na Junta' at 0400 to buy a ticket.

I was in Tofo last night and stayed at Mango Beach which is being renovated so perhaps for the time being Bamboozi is a better option. Or even perhaps Nordime's Lodge which is in Tofo so walking to pubs and clubs very easy.

Verdinhos in Inhambane is a great coffee shop and cafe so don't miss it too.

Panda? You are returning from Botswana? Well, forget the Intercape, I should have just hitched a ride with you ;-D

Ok, have booked Bamboozi and was told that I should just stay at Base Backpackers in Maputo the first night as there is a daily bus that leaves from Fatima's and Base Backpackers dropping people directly at Bamboozi daily. I read a blog from some guy who said that he waited for this daily direct bus at Base for a couple hours, but it never materialized and he ended up on a 6AM bus from the station.

It also seems that that the Pantera Azul bus only leaves from Maputo on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays (is this info correct?) and I'd like to get to the beach ASAP. Now, I'm just not liking the sound of Base or Fatima's so I'd rather stay somewhere nicer, but I also want to be sure I get out of Maputo on Friday morn - on the beach for sundowners for Friday night! Maybe I should stay where I want in Maputo (either Monte Carlo or Palmeiras Guest House - which is more central?) and take the chapas on Friday morn???

OK.I asked around at Zombie Cucumber in Vilnkulo where I stayed last night and was told that the most popular buses are now transportes jarmanho or transportes jafaar (spelling?) if coming from Maputo or ´Eu ja vou´ if coming from the Beira side. So get to Junta by taxi at 0400 to make sure of a seat. The Base or Fatimas will give you advice.

I was near Panda in Mozambique which is in the bush (great birding area) west of Inhambane.
