Hello,

Great site, has been very helpfull in planning a trip to Mozambique. End of august wil start from Tanzania travelling to Mozambique. I've seen it's possible to get a visa in Dar es Salaam, which is very helpfull for a friend of mine who is already in Tanzania and didn't have time to arrange it at home. But my question is how much time does it approximately takes to get a visa at the embassy here? Or since we are passing through Malawi is it easier to obtain one in Blantyre (according to my readings it was not very time consuming to get a visa there, but Dar would be more convenient)?

Thanks a lot for your info.

Cheers Nadia

If by 'here' you mean South Africa (Joburg, C Town, Durban or Nespruit have consulates) then its in by 1000 out by 1500, i.e same day. Note that South Africans no longer need visas.

Sorry my bad it should be there instead of here. I mean how much time does it approximately takes to get a visa in Dar es Salaam for travelling in Mozambique? We both aren't south africans so we do need visa, but unlike my friend I do have time to arrange mine at home (netherlands), but we don't want to be stuck to long at an embassy in Dar. Thanks for the info.

OK
In Dar Visas can be issued on the same day as opposed to waiting for the next day, or for two days but the fee will be higher (USD30 instead of USD20???). Most travellers opt for the same day option. An immigration house is now being built at Namoto (Moz side of Rovuma mouth border) and so now perhaps Moz visas are being issued at Kilambo/Namoto (Tanz/Moz) but do not rely on this until confirmed.

Hi Mike, on the same topic here and from reading your VISA page, can I confirm that it is ok to get a visa in Dar for over 30 days initially, or do I just apply for a 30 day visa, and then once in Mozambique I can get an extension in a main town?
I plan to be in the country for 6 - 8 weeks, and don't want to get caught out mid country.
Thanks for all advice so far...

Tourist visas are usually 30 days a pop, and note that while multiple entry visas can be valid for up to 6 months, you are given ONLY 10 DAYS on each entry before you have to leave and return. Renewing a tourist visa is practical at most large towns and all provincial capitals, BUT you must hand in your passport at least 3 days before expiry AND renewable has become quite a racket especially from Vilankulo - I would try to renew in Quelimane, Chimoio, Beira, Maxixe or Maputo. Fees can range from US$30 to $80. Note too that overstaying a visa attracts a fine of US$100 per day.
