Visa on arrival at some road posts?

I am new to the forum and starting a backpacking trip to several South East African countries tomorrow. I have seen messages and Lonely Planet information about posibility to get a visa to Mozambique, on arrival at some road border posts. I understand that must be same day issue. In other informations, I see that the only change to get a Visa is in a Mozambique embassy, and usually waiting 4 days.
Can you help me on that?. I plan to enter Mozambique from South Malawi and my route is flexible, as I prefer to adapt road than wait 4 days in Lilongwe.

Apologies for the slow reply. Most land borders issue a border visa on arrival for $80. The land borders that don't have the authorization to issue a "visto da fronteira" (border visa) are Mucumbezi, Namoto, Negomano, Entre Lagos, Metangula and Congresso.
So on your route the Mwanza / Zobue and Milange / Melosa border will issue you with a border visa, valid for 30 days.

Just to confirm that Visa on arrival at the Tete border post worked prfectly. Digital photo taken at the post, finger prints, form filling, paying 86$, and done.
The rest of the trip, to Tete, Vilankulo, Tofo, Maputo and Swaziland went perfectly.
