Hi Mike,
Thank you again. I will look for this DriveMoz page for further informations.
We are not sure at the moment (it is enough time until August!), what we should do: to rent a sedan car and go to Ressano Garcia border or to rent a 2x4 SUV and go through Giriyondo. I asked SanParks, whether it is allowed to go with a 2x4 to Giriyondo border, but I didn't get an useful answer from them.
To rent a 4x4 is definitely to expensive for us.
Cheers Charly

Hi

yes very good idea to rent a 2x4 SUV as this will manage the Giriyondo route without problems. I would still stick to the main road on the Parque Nacional do Limpopo side as the side tracks to Aguia Pesqueira, for example, can be quite rough.

Let me know which vehicle you have found to rent as then I can five you specific advice.

Go well

Mike

Thank you Mike!
Are you really sure if the Giriyondo Border Post allow to cross the border by a 2x4 car?
I remember different statements regarding the permission. It would be very bad to be unsuccessfully at the border.

Hi

yes there are reports that Giriyondo is restricted to 4x4 vehicles, but actually the regulation refers to "suitable" vehicles. Commercial vehicles such as trucks and transporting goods or passengers are not permitted to use Giriyondo, but I have twice taken an SUV (Daihatsu Terios and Honda CRV - both 2x4) through without any questions asked.

Note that the customs officials on the Moz side regularly try to "extort" money from travelers by demanding a tax for bringing in groceries for personal use. No beer is allowed but here is the correct regulation that I found by searching "duty free" on this forum:

Thank you again, Mike.
Yesterday I got an answer from San Parks too, that they allow to cross the Giriyondo Border by 2x4.
I think, we will rent than such a car. But it is enough time until August.:)

Can you recommend an accommodation for 2 nights in Maputo? On our way back from Tofo to South Africa we think about a stop in Maputo. We prefer a small guesthouse or a cosy hotel with breakfast and safe parking. Should be not so expensive. Do you have a tip for us?

And may be you can recommend an accomodation in Xai Xai, we will stay for 1 night there on our way from Kruger to Tofo.

Have a nice weekend Charly

Hi Charly

In Maputo I really like Sommerschield Guesthouse. In the Xai Xai area about 15km south of Xai Xai there is Madeirarte accommodation. Basic and not a pretty location, but good for an overnight stop.
