Hi There
Please can someone assist with the following as we are driving from Komatiepoort to tofu and are considering the following route.
From Komatiepoort taking the R 570 until it links up with the R405,R204 and finally to the EN1.
1. What is the road surface, tar or dirt road?
2. What speed is it possible to travel at?
3. Is it the bestt possible alternative to going via Maputo?
4. Is the route safe (Travelling through the day)
5.Do you need a 4x4 to take this route?

many thanks
Neal

MIKE: Go Moamba - cross Incomati just after Moamba - Sabie - Magude - back across Incomati on rail bridge - Xinavane - EN1.
1. What is the road surface, tar or dirt road?
MIKE: Gravel / Sand with quite a lot of clay mud when wet. Also pig pools of water across road in places during and after heavy rain (Dec - May).

2. What speed is it possible to travel at?
MIKE: Dry 80kph, wet perhaps 40- 50kph, depends on how wet
3. Is it the bestt possible alternative to going via Maputo?
MIKE: Yes. Can go Giriyondo through Kruger but much longer in time and more costs.
4. Is the route safe (Travelling through the day)
MIKE: No reports of problems. Sensible driving and you will be fine.
5.Do you need a 4x4 to take this route?
MIKE: In the wet, yes, but dry season any bakkie / kombi (van) or higher clearance vehicle OK. I have seen locals in mazda 323 doing this route but very slowly and have to turn around every bump and rock so NOT nice for you or your car.
