Maputo Elephant Sanctuary

Just to note that if anyone is coming from Komatipoort and wants to visit the Elephant reserve, the road from Boane to the south that one would normally take is currently closed due to work on a bridge which was destroyed. This means one would be best served to travel into Maputo and take the ferry. There is a route via the big dam (Umbuluzi) but it's quite convoluted and the road is in a bad state after the heavy rains earlier this year.

Hi, we want to take a short trip to Milibangalala. There isn't much info around. I did get hold of poeple who go there often. Concerning the fees from Kosi Border Post to the reserve entry fees and camping fees at Mili, does anybody have the latest. I am getting conflicting information.

Thank you,

Hi Lucky - the fees recently went up and I was there in late May. The entry fee was 400 mts per person, vehicle entry fee was 200 mts. We also paid 200 mts per person to camp. To stay one night it was a total of 1600 mts for two people (foreigners) in one vehicle. At the moment the rate is about 3 mts to one rand.

The park is stunning. The camp facilities at Ponta Milibangalala are rather basic !

Hope this helps !

Thank you Ettienne,

Okay, lets see if I have my ducks in order,

Park entry fees are Mt400 per person (Once off or daily fee?)
Park entry fees for a vehicle Mt200 per vehicle (once off or daily?)
Camping fee per person, per day is Mt200?

Kosi Border post:
Also you need 3rd party insurance from Outdoor warehouse (ZAR300)
Road Taxes ZAR300??
Other?

Thanks Ettienne

and yes the sceneryt, lakes and beach of the Maputo Reserve are special

The MT400 pp entrance and MT200 p car is once off and the MT200pp is per day for camping. 3rd party from AA for R160, or at the border same price. Otherwise just MT25 for the Temp Import Permit and R30 (about) for border tax per passport. If not on SA or SADC passport then $85 for a border visa (Visto Fronteira) valid for 30 days.
