Hi, I’m writing from Barcelona and next week we’ll be in Lilongwe and we would to know what the best way to arrive to Nampula
1. Lilongwe - Mangochi - Chiponde - Mandimba – Cuamba- Nampula(by train) or
2. Mulanje -Mocuba –Nampula
Thanks for your help.

Hi

As you are using public transport I highly recommend using the Cuamba - Nampula train. Even though the train should depart at 0500, you need to be at the station by 0330 to make sure you get a place in the carriage. Puchase a 2nd class ticket at the station the afternoon before. There are currently only 3rd class (really cramped and quite an ordeal) and 2nd class.

BEWARE! There are very clever thieves and pickpockets that operate at the stations and on the trains so don't trust anyone including the police and carry all money, tickets and passports in a flat moneybelt under your clothes and hang on to your baggage.

Look at: jonathansworldlyimages.com/country/mozambique/

The railway line has also been upgraded so the trip should now take 8 hours instead of 12, but plan for the full 12 hr journey.

Go well and let us know how you progress.
