Left pomene camp at 4am. Did the mapinhane - mabote - mapai route. Arrived at Pafuri border post 4.30pm. Dirt roads very good condition. Took advice from locals and crossed limpopo (barely a trickle) at mapai. Drove the 120km in 2hr15 mins. Admittedly we were pushing to make border closing time (having made such good progress up to mapai). Hindsight would have taken it much easier as the road is terrible and driving above 35km/hr hard on vehicle. Pushed through to punda maria, louis trichart, eventually arriving in jhb at 1am - 21hrs later. Word of advice, when in africa, travel at african time. Was my first time in Moz and loved it.

Mabote - Banamana, decent enough, averaged about 60km/h, just gotta keep your eyes peeled for dips in the road where you can see guys get stuck in the wet season. Amazing drive, really enjoyed it.

Banamana - Machaila - Mapai brilliant dirt roads, easy 80km/h, a few corrugations but most of the road appears graded, new bridges built (in place of the dips) compacted with the dark red sand that you find dug out of huge holes!

Pity, in a way, that Banamana - Machaila has been graded as it used to be a nice winding track throught the forests.
