Travel With Mozguide

Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with Mozguide and experience the beauty of Mozambique and surrounding countries with a seasoned traveler and expert in the region. Our founder and owner, Mike Slater, has been taking travelers from all walks of life, including investors, scientists, filmmakers, researchers, families, and more, on unforgettable journeys since 1996.

Mike’s extensive knowledge of the region is evident in his two guidebooks about Mozambique, as well as his upbringing in Johannesburg, South Africa and extensive network of family, friends, and contacts in the area. He has traveled the region by multiple modes of transportation, including bicycle, boat, bus, dugout, donkey-cart, train, kayak, ski-boat, airplane, helicopter, and his own 4×4 vehicles, and on foot. This allows him to take you to hidden destinations that few others even know exist.

In addition to being a trained military medic, Mike is also an accomplished “bush mechanic”, ensuring a safe and seamless journey. Mozguide is equipped with all the necessary camping, catering, and off-roading gear, including tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment, and water-purification equipment, sufficient for groups of up to 30 people.

You have the option of joining Mike in his luxurious, reliable, and capable Toyota Prado 150 (7-seater, accommodating up to 3 adults and 2 children), or you can rent your own 4×4 vehicle and utilize Mike’s vehicle for extra passengers and gear. An off-road luggage trailer will be used as needed.

We will work with you to create a customized itinerary tailored to your unique interests and needs, with flexible scheduling to accommodate changes along the way. Let Mozguide show you the best of Mozambique and make unforgettable memories on your journey.

Kruger National Park to Mozambique Coast: Adventure via Pafuri or Giriyondo Borders

If you’re planning to visit Mozambique between April and December, consider taking the Pafuri and/or Giriyondo routes for an adventurous and relaxing trip. These routes offer no queues, no traffic, no runners, and very few visitors, allowing you to enjoy the Mozambican Wilderness to its fullest, including the unique Zinave and/or Banhine National Parks.

Option 1: You use your own or rented 4×4 fully equipped vehicle with your own camping equipment and self-cater. In this option, MozGuide will guide you in their Toyota Prado, assist with camping and cooking, and provide mechanical repair and recovery back-up. The cost for this option is US$200 per vehicle, with a minimum of 2 vehicles and a maximum of 5 vehicles. Note that if you use only one vehicle, the cost is still US$400.

Option 2: You use your own or rented unequipped 4×4 vehicle, and MozGuide provides all camping (tents, bedding, chairs, etc.), meals, and catering equipment. In this option, MozGuide will guide you, set up camp, provide and cook the food, and provide mechanical repair and recovery back-up. The cost for this option is US$150 per person, with a minimum of 3 persons. Note that if your group is less than 3, the cost is still US$450.

Option 3: If you do not have your own or rented vehicle, MozGuide can take you in their fully equipped luxury and reliable 7-seater Toyota Prado 150. In this option, MozGuide will provide all meals (except at restaurants), bottled water, and camping equipment (bedding, mattresses, etc.), and you only need to bring your clothes, toiletries, and passport. The best combination for this option is a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children. The cost for a 4-day trip from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Vilanculos (Mozambique) or vice versa is US$400 per person, with a minimum charge of US$800. Note that additional days can be added in the Kruger National Park, Banhine National Park, and Zinave National Park (or any combination of the three) at your own expense.

The duration of the trip is a minimum of 2 nights (excluding Gonarezhou, Zinave, and Banhine), and a minimum of 6 nights if Gonarezhou is included or 4 nights if Zinave and/or Banhine are included. This does not include days spent in the Kruger National Park or along the Mozambique Coast. All costs for any additional days are for your account, i.e., you pay your own way. MozGuide can compile itineraries including the Kruger National Park and the coast of Mozambique, but additional costs apply depending on how many days and the type of accommodation.

Note that the dry season between April/May and November/December is the best time to take this trip. During the wet season, the Limpopo River is too high to cross (including using the pontoon), or local roads are too wet or flooded, or both.

You can combine the above routes to form a circular route, and Gonarezhou (Zimbabwe) Zinave and/or Banhine National Parks can be included as options. If the trip starts in Johannesburg, rather than meeting you at either the Pafuri or Giriyondo borders, add at least a day or more days if spending time in the Kruger Park before crossing into Mozambique.
